先史時代から現代に至るまでの資料や記録を蒐集するAMCから発行される「Amc2 journal」シリーズ。写真を中核とした幅広いテーマを扱う膨大なコレクションの中からイメージを編集し絡み合わせることで、思い掛けないような世界の本質が浮かび上がってくる。Issue 8では、中国で1930年代から80年代までの間に撮影されたモノクロ写真やその上に色付けされた全身ポートレートを収録。偶然に見つかったこれらのポートレートに写る60名のカメラの前に佇む姿からは、当時の中国社会の慣習やイデオロギーを感じ取ることができる。

Amc2 Journal Issue 8 features a selection of full-length portraits, some black & white and others hand-coloured, made in Chinese studios between the 1930s and the 1980s. This serendipitous reunion of 60 anonymous portraits reveals – through the dress codes and behavioural mores they present – fragments of the history of Chinese society and ideology.
